I liked the storyline, but it seems I was always questioning something. Character depth was sketchy. I would have enjoyed more depth of storyline as well as character build up.
Take a trip with 4 old college friends. Some fun stops, struggles and adventures. An old hurtful relationship rekindles and there is something for everyone. A nice long story.
The story is as fun and captivating as I have come to expect from this author, but there's alot of depth to it as well. These themes - forgiveness, the value of friendship, honesty, trust, listening to your instincts, and "when something is meant to be, it is meant to be" run through the book. I love how the author makes the point that if you follow your heart, love WILL find you in the end no matter how disillusioned you are. I would love to go on a group road trip with the characters... and the author! YAY for happy endings!
I was hooked the minute I started this book. The characters are all vibrant and interesting and the events that take place along the road trip are very entertaining (I want to visit the caves they saw!). I was captivated by the tension between Andee and Robin, and the slow revelation of the truth behind the incident that caused their breakup ten years ago was very well done. It was very comforting to read a story where the main characters are all lesbian and it's treated like no big deal. I was honestly sorry to near the end, because I was having so much fun reading about these ladies and their adventures!
This book was highly recommended by the authors wife so I decided to check it out. I did not regret it one bit. The book had some really tough emotional sections but there was enough fun and funny to pull you through to a very satisfying conclusion. As big of a fan as I am of this and the other two books I've read from Natalie Vivien I will definitely be looking into more.
Great writing and very romantic as usual for this author. However, even though I knew Andee and Robin were going to get together eventually, because in the Vivien universe true love conquers all (which I like), Robins reasoning was absolutely lame. You let the love of your life go on for 10 years thinking you cheated for THAT? To keep a promise so a scumbag could keep cheating on her girlfriend?? I don't know what's worse, letting your love go like that, or not telling your friend her girlfriend is a cheater. Robin is so out of place amongst Natalie's well written characters. So I'd say for the first part of the series, 5 stars. For the last part and the big revelation, 2 stars. Maybe 1 1/2 star.
